Ingredients you need:
- Lemon or Lime juice
- Maraschino cherries
Making your cherry lemonade or cherry limeade
- If using fresh lemons or lime, extract the juice.
- Add juice to a gallon sized pitcher.
- Stir in sugar to dissolve.
- Add in grenadine and stir. Stir in cherries and citrus slices if desired.
- Serve over ice.
Do I really need grenadine from the bottle?
Yes and no. The liquid that the maraschino cherries comes in works fairly well in this recipe. However, if you leave the cherries without the liquid too long, then they will shrivel up and dry out.
Therefore, I use the grenadine from a bottle instead of the maraschino cherry jar to save them for later.
Which is better, fresh juice or juice from a bottle?
Either one will work. I like to use fresh squeezed juice because it is very abundant where I live. I can get 20 pounds of lemons for $2-$3 on a regular basis. However, if you want, the bottled lemon or lime juice works just the same.
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup lime or lemon juice
- 1/2 cup grenadine
- Marschino cherries
- Blend all ingredients together in a gallon sized pitcher.
- Stir completely.
- Add water to fill, and serve over ice.
