Creamy oats, combined with almond milk, sweet strawberries and the power house food chia seeds make an easy to grab and go breakfast that will keep you full all morning long!

Who decided that oatmeal was good cold? I would like to give that first person a “high five”. While you CAN heat overnight oats if you prefer them warm, I really have enjoyed them as they are, straight from the fridge.
Overnight oats are just like they sound. It is oatmeal that is combined with other ingredients, spooned into a jar and allowed to sit in the fridge overnight. This not only allows the flavors to meld, but to help the oats be a bit more digestible.

How does this make the oats more digestible?
Some people have issues digesting oatmeal when it’s cooked straight from the package. They can experience heartburn, indigestion, and other tummy issues. Allowing them to soak overnight with an acid medium, such as with the yogurt, can help reduce that.
Ingredients you need:
- Old Fashioned (rolled) Oats
- Plain yogurt
- Milk of choice
- Chia seeds
- Strawberries
- Maple syrup
- Vanilla extract

Making your strawberry chia overnight oats:
- Chop strawberries into bite size pieces.
- In a medium sized bowl, combine all ingredients and stir well.
- Scoop into mason jars and cover, or leave in the bowl and cover.
- Allow to sit in the fridge overnight, or at least 6 hours.

Do you eat overnight oats cold or hot?
We enjoy our overnight oats cold. I want to know the first person who thought of eating oatmeal cold, honestly! They are cool, creamy, and perfect on a hot summer day.
However, you CAN heat them up on the stove top or in the microwave if you prefer a hot oatmeal breakfast.

Do I use fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries?
You can use either, honestly. If you choose to use frozen strawberries, it’s best if you let them thaw, then chop and add to your overnight oats recipe.
What kind of yogurt should I use?
For this recipe I added maple syrup as a sweetener. For that reason, I use plain Greek yogurt. However, you can use vanilla flavored yogurt, or strawberry flavored yogurt if you’d like.
