Light and refreshing, perfect for lazy brunch weekends, or just a hot summer’s day, try a strawberry orange mimosa mocktail!
Lazy weekends breakfasts are a must around here. Our lives are so busy, not only with the 9-5 jobs, but working on the homestead. Managing chickens, ducks, and a garden while working a full time job isn’t always easy.
So, when it’s time to REST, we REST. I love those times when we can just chill with a hot cup of coffee, maybe some scones, and a breakfast casserole. Of course, adding in a light and flavorful drink always makes it special. These mimosa mocktails are a family favorite for those times.
Mimosa mocktails are light and refreshing, and everyone loves them around here. The boy can easily drink an entire gallon of it by himself.
What is a mimosa?
A classic mimosa is a drink recipe that is typically served at brunches, baby showers, or other elegant gatherings. It’s a mixture of fresh orange juice, and equal parts sparkling wine. This fancy brunch drink is served in champagne flutes typically as well.
However, we don ‘t drink a lot of alcohol around here, for many personal reasons. So, I created a non alcoholic version. Back in my younger days when I worked in a restaurant, I drank a lot of orange juice, instead of coffee.
Yeah, I wasn’t into coffee back then. Young fool that I was. Anyway, one day we mixed a bunch of orange juice with equal parts of Sprite, and my new favorite was born.
Other Brunch Recipes To Try
How do you make a mimosa mocktail recipe that is good, anyway?
Well, first you make it “mock”, which means we need to replace the dry sparkling wine with a sparkling water. Since I like mine a bit sweeter, I use my “secret” ingredient of lemon lime soda. For this particular mimosa recipe, I used no calorie Zevia. (NOT an affiliate link)
(just so you know, Zevia didn’t ask me to write this)
Next, we add something to the orange juice to give it more pep, zing, and a touch of sweet elegance. Enter in the frozen strawberries. Strawberries go with oranges like peas and carrots. Like peanut butter and chocolate. They were made for each other. Using frozen berries will also help chill the drink, without watering it down.
If you want extra strawberry flavor, make the orange juice and berries a couple of hours before, and allow the strawberries to meld into the orange juice in the fridge. When you are ready to serve, then pour the Zevia in to get the fizz.
Are you ready for a refreshing, non alcoholic drink that only takes 3 ingredients? #mimosa #mocktail #beverage #drinksWhy use Zevia?
I love Zevia because it is naturally sweetened with stevia. This is a huge improvement for me over the high fructose corn syrup sweetened junk I used to drink a lot of. It has the same flavors, the same carbonation and bubbles, but with a LOT less calories and guilt.
When you add the Zevia to the orange juice and strawberries, it’ll create a bit of foam on the top. If you don’t like the foamy top, simply stir it down a bit. Light, refreshing, and no alcohol needed! What more could you ask for?
