This easy, healthy, breakfast recipe is perfect for prepping ahead of time! It’s just a couple of simple ingredients, combined together, and chilled in the fridge. When you are ready to eat, simply pop the top, grab a spoon and enjoy!

What are overnight oats?
Just the the name implies, they are oats that are allowed to sit overnight. This allows the oats to soften, and all the flavors to meld.
Are overnight oats healthy?
Yes, they are. For a lot of people, a diet that has some whole grains in it is a great balance. Oats can play a part in that balance.
However, for some, if the oats are not soaked overnight, they are more difficult to digest. Heartburn, indigestion, and other tummy issues can occur. Allowing them to soak overnight with an acid medium, such as with the yogurt, can help reduce that.

What kind of oats do I use?
There are a couple kind of oats. It’s all about the amount of processing the plant goes through. Oat groats are the “berries” that grow on the oat plant itself. They are the least amount of processed oats you can get. When they get cut up, they are referred to as “steel cut oats”, or Irish oats.
Old fashioned rolled oats are the oat groats that have been steamed and, you guessed it, rolled. When THOSE are cut up, that’s when you have quick oats.
For overnight oats, I prefer the old fashioned rolled oats. They hold up much better than quick oats. They also aren’t as hard to eat as steel cut oats or oat groats, both of which need some heat to soften them up.
Ingredients you need:
- Rolled oats
- Milk
- Vanilla greek yogurt
- Almond extract
- Blueberries
- Sliced almonds

How to make overnight oats:
- Combine all the ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl.
- Spoon into jars and cover, or simply cover the bowl and store in the refrigerator overnight.
- Grab a spoon and enjoy!
Can I make these dairy free?
Absolutely! Although I use raw milk from the farm this base recipe will work great with coconut milk or almond milk, as well as dairy free yogurt. Simply substitute it 1:1 and you are good to go!

We enjoy our overnight oats cold. I want to know the first person who thought of eating oatmeal cold, honestly! They are cool, creamy, and perfect on a hot summer day.
However, you CAN heat them up on the stove top or in the microwave if you prefer a hot oatmeal breakfast.

- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vanilla greek yogurt
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 cup blueberries
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.
- Spoon into 2 pint jars and cover.
- Refrigerate overnight, or up to 3 days.
- To serve, simply remove lid and enjoy!
