I love my Instant Pot! As a matter of fact, I actually invested in 3 of them. Yes, 3. I use them all nearly daily, second only to my stove top. Many recipes are done quickly and easily in the Instant Pot.

One of my family’s favorite fruits are apples. They are available all year long, and are delicious as snacks, smeared with peanut butter or honey, and even mixed into savory soups like this butternut squash soup. And making homemade applesauce is an easy way to get a side dish for just about any meal.

You are going to love this applesauce and how simple it is. There is no need to peel the apples, either.

Ingredients you need

  • 3 pounds apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Instant Pot

Making your Instant Pot applesauce

  1. Cut and core apples.
  2. Add to Instant Pot, and pour water over apples.
  3. Place lid on, cook, and allow pressure to naturally release.
  4. Use immersion blender or potato masher to mash to desired consistency.
  5. Allow to chill or serve hot if desired.

What kind of apples should I use?

I used Golden Delicious for this applesauce, as they are my personal favorite. However, there are many apples that lend themselves to applesauce with ease. Some of our favorites

  • Granny Smith apples
  • Jonathon
  • Cortland
  • Red Delicious
  • Honey Crisp
  • Pink Lady
  • McIntosh

A great way to get the best of all the flavors is to combine different apples. Granny Smith is more tart, and Honey Crisp is very sweet. Combine the two and the result can be amazing.

I personally never use added sugar, but you may need some, depending on the apples and level of sweetness. To add sugar, mash your apples, then stir in sugar a bit at a time until desired sweetness is reached.

Why do I need to allow the pressure to release naturally on this?

Applesauce can be very foamy, and a quick release can push foam into the pressure valve. Therefore, a natural release is needed to keep it from making a mess.
