Creamy French toast combines well with spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Add sweet applesauce and you have the best apple pie French toast recipe ever!

We love French toast in our home. It is one of the boy’s favorite breakfasts. He requests it at least 3 times a week, to be honest. I like to switch things up in the kitchen. One day, I had some applesauce hat I needed to use up and this apple pie French toast was born.
I love the flavors in this French toast recipe. It’s warming, comforting, and has all the flavors of a fresh baked apple pie, without having to go to that effort. You’ll love how easy it is, too.

Ingredients you need:
- Eggs
- Milk

- Cinnamon
- Cloves
- Nutmeg
- Applesauce
- Bread

Making your apple pie French toast

- Place in hot buttered skillet, and cook.
- Flip and cook on other side.
- Serve hot.

What kind of bread should I use?
You can use any kind of bread you have on hand, to be honest. I like to use a thicker, heartier bread for this as it soaks up the egg mixture fairly well. A “weaker” bread can fall apart and not grill up as nicely.
If you want to use store bought bread, that’s great. I use that often when I don’t have time to make a batch of bread. If you want to use homemade bread, here are some great options:
Can I make apple pie French toast ahead of time?
That’s one of my favorite things about this recipe. You can make a double, triple, or even quadruple batch one day, and freeze it.
To freeze your apple pie French toast, simply lay each slice on a baking sheet, in a single layer. Place in the freezer for 2 hours. Stick the frozen slices of French toast into a freezer safe bag, remove as much air as possible, and freeze for up to 2 months.
To reheat, you can use microwave your slices, or stick them in a toaster. You can also heat the slices in a skillet on the stove top by putting them in a hot buttered skillet.
What to serve with this apple pie French toast:
- Coffee with French vanilla creamer
- Strawberry orange mock mimosa
- Easy Whipped Coffee
- Salted caramel latte
